Shark Bay World Heritage Area

The jewel in the crown of this area, is Money Mia. Twice a day the rangers feed dolphins by hand. Visitors can take photos from the shore or from a short jetty, and occasionally they will select a few visitors to join them.

Obviously we were there late in the afternoon, looked through the Visitor’s centre with displays of bones from small creatures, dugongs, and turtles found in the area. We then walked along the jetty, not raining at the time, and as luck would have it, two dolphins swam around one large and one very small, so we presumed mum and her baby.

A bonus for the day!

We headed back down the road to Shell Beach. We had heard of this, so decided it was worth a visit since we were in the area.

Lots of information and photos on the billboards surrounding the area before you stepped onto the beach. It was a dull and showery day, so the weather didn’t allow us to see the beach in all its glory, but it was good enough. Millions of tiny shells cover this beach, instead of sand. Bit hard to walk on without footwear, but good to see anyway. Some areas the depth of the shells goes to 9 metres.

Even though it wasn’t a bright sunny day, that’s a couple of areas ticked off the bucket list.
