We left Sandstone, and we’re glad we took the time to visit. It was a round trip from the Highway of some 320 kms, but gave us the chance to sit and enjoy peace and quiet, and recharge our batteries, not the caravan’s, they’re fine.
Next stop was a recommended roadside rest area, with an odd name, Kirkalocka. A large area on the edge of a station of the same name, dotted with trees and wildflowers, but plenty of space out the back for around 20 vans, or more, without feeling hemmed in.

We did have two more join us, but after lunch, they took off on their journey, so we had the place to ourselves all night.

Another rest day was required (look; you can’t rush a rest), so we had the place to ourselves again. Amazing, since there was a toilet block, two dump points and plenty of garbage bins.
There was a sign on the Highway travelling south, but going north there was only poles left. Either vandals, the wind, or the main roads powers that be have removed them.
The other problem with the site was, it’s on the Great Northern Highway, with triple and quad road trains travelling until around midnight, then resuming at about 5am. We were far enough back for them to be no big deal though.
Rested, then it was on to overnight stop at Perenjori’s RV stop – flat ground, on the old courts. We were here in May, and the countryside was dry, and in the town they were building a new IGA store. Glad to say they have finished the build, and it’s a credit to the manager and staff.
Being new, it was clean and tidy, and the small welcoming gardens bright and weed free. All in all it was a pleasure to shop here, and items were not that more expensive than Perth.
What did surprise us was the surrounding country and farms. Spring has really sprung! Within te space if a few hours on the road we had gone from desert red dust to lush croplands.

Hundreds of acres of canola and wheat nearly ready for harvesting, and it continued down till we were at our next destination, Karda Campground in Hill River.
We have been here before and it still satisfying to be welcomed with peace and quiet with only birdsong and grazing roos interrupting us.

We’re here for two nights and then travel back to Yanchep National Park, another favourite for the best part of next week. Have to be there for a few appointments and shopping, but most important, an early birthday lunch with our daughter.
It’s great to see the family when we’re back and enjoy all the hugs and kisses we can get.
Then on Friday we depart to who knows where. We’ll work it out.
