After exhausting what feels like every bakery in Western Australia in search of the perfect pie, except maybe the Augusta Bakery, I was starting to lose hope.
So many promising golden crusts. So many disappointing fillings. So much sadness.
Then it hit me — the solution was right there in our own kitchen — Kay.
Turns out the secret to a great pie isn’t finding the right bakery. It’s marrying an incredible cooking teacher who decides to take matters into her own hands.
1.5kg of rump steak, a frankly irresponsible amount of streaky bacon, and a blend of herbs and spices so secret even I’m not allowed to know what’s in them (and no, Colonel, nothing remotely like yours).
The result? Absolute perfection. Flaky. Rich. Deeply, deeply satisfying. The mix yielded 7 overfilled great pies.
So to every bakery in WA — no hard feelings. You never stood a chance. 🏆
Lesson learned: stop searching. Marry better. 😂
